Greenpeace report shames corporations contributing to forest destruction
The reort, entitled How Sinar Mas is pulping the planet, accuses some corporations of contributing to Indonesia’s forest deforestation and species loss through purchasing palm oil and paper from Sinar Mas. Such companies include PaperlinX, WH Smith, Carrefour, National Geographic and Tesco.
The report also urges companies to stop doing business with Asia Pulp ad Paper (APP), a Sinar Mas subsidiary. It claims that APP was “relentlessly trashing rainforest, spewing carbon into the atmoshphere and driving species to extinction in the Southeast Asian archipelago”.
Even before the report was published, other companies had reportedly ended their working relationship with APP due to their “clear lack of progress in improving their environmental performance.”
